What is ArcGIS Server Cloud Builder for Microsoft Azure?

In this topic

ArcGIS Server Cloud Builder for Microsoft Azure is an application you install on your local Windows machine to deploy and manage GIS servers and web GIS on Microsoft Azure. It helps you to extend your Azure implementation to include ArcGIS.

You can download ArcGIS Server Cloud Builder for Microsoft Azure from My Esri if you have an ArcGIS for Server license.

The following sections describe what items are created on Azure when you deploy a site using ArcGIS Server Cloud Builder for Microsoft Azure.

GIS server deployment items

A multiple-machine GIS server deployment creates the following on Azure:

  • Two or more ArcGIS Server machines
  • One machine containing a managed database in Microsoft Azure SQL Database or SQL Server (optional postdeployment step)
  • One or more machines containing registered databases (optional postdeployment step)

A workgroup or single-machine deployment creates one virtual machine containing ArcGIS Server and databases.

Web GIS deployment items

A multiple-machine web GIS deployment creates the following on Azure:

  • Two or more ArcGIS Server machines
  • Portal for ArcGIS on its own virtual machine
  • ArcGIS Data Store on its own virtual machine
  • Two or more web servers that act as reverse proxies

A workgroup or single-machine deployment creates one virtual machine containing ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, and ArcGIS Data Store.
