Existing ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server users

Caution:

Do not uninstall an existing version of ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server before installing the new version of ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server. Instead, run the ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server installer to properly upgrade your existing GeoEvent Extension configuration to the new version.

The ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server installer is designed to detect and upgrade an existing installation of the GeoEvent Extension on the target machine.

Before upgrading to a new version of ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server, it is recommended you export your GeoEvent Extensionconfiguration using ArcGIS GeoEvent Manager and back up any installed or added components. The components are added to the following folder: <arcgis-geoevent-install-location>\deploy.

For any custom components, you might need to modify the code, release numbers, configurations, and rebuild with the appropriate version of the ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server Software Development Kit.

Common software upgrade questions

This section addresses common questions about the upgrade behavior of ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server.

Do I need to uninstall a previous version of ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server before installing the new version?

No. If you already have an existing version of ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server installed, the setup will automatically upgrade it to the new version without any additional configuration.

Do I need to back up anything before installing the new version of ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server?

Yes. It is recommended that you back up your GeoEvent Extension configuration as well as your added components.

To back up your GeoEvent Extension configuration, use GeoEvent Manager to export your configuration as a configuration file.

To back up your added components, back up the content from the following folder: <arcgis-geoevent-install-location>\GeoEvent\deploy.

If I upgrade to a new version of ArcGIS for Server, do I need to upgrade ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server?

Yes. The release of ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server must match ArcGIS for Server. You cannot run mismatched releases of the software on the same machine.

Steps for upgrading from a previous version

Follow the steps below to upgrade from a previous version of the GeoEvent Extension:

  1. Stop the GeoEvent Extension.

    If the GeoEvent Extension is running as a Linux daemon, skip to Step 2.

  2. Stop and uninstall the ArcGIS GeoEvent daemon.

    Refer to the GeoEvent Extension Install Guide for the version currently installed and execute Step 1 to stop and uninstall the ArcGIS GeoEvent daemon.

  3. Execute the install steps from Installing ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server. This will actually upgrade the GeoEvent Extension to the new version.
Note:

Your existing GeoEvent configuration will be preserved and will be upgraded to the new version the first time the GeoEvent Extension runs.
