00005: Layer type is not supported

In this topic

A layer in your document is not supported for use in basemap layers, map services, or feature services such as those residing on My Hosted Services.

Solutions

  • Use one of the layer types that are supported for basemap layers or map services.
  • An alternative approach is to remove the unsupported layer from your document.

More information

Some layers are quite advanced and are used to display intricate cartography. Maps containing these layer types tend to render more slowly. Many types of layers are not supported for basemap layers or map services because they draw slowly.

SupportedUnsupported

Basemap layer

  • Standard feature layers
  • ArcGIS Server layers
  • Annotation layers
  • Dimension layers
  • Group layers
  • Mosaic dataset layers
  • Raster catalog layers
  • Raster layers
  • Parcel fabric layers
  • Tin and Terrain layers
  • WMS layers
  • Tiled map service layers
  • Tracking layers
  • ArcIMS layers
  • CAD feature layers
  • CAD annotation layers
  • Coverage annotation layers
  • LAS dataset layers
  • Network analysis layers
  • Network layers
  • Topology layers
  • Video layers

Map services

You can convert your unsupported layers to one of the supported layer types listed above. For example, you could convert a coverage annotation layer to a geodatabase annotation layer.
