Upgrade an existing Workflow Manager installation

The Workflow Manager setup package detects and upgrades an existing installation of Workflow Manager.

The following is a list of common software upgrade questions:

How do I upgrade Workflow Manager?

Complete the following steps to upgrade Workflow Manager:

  1. If you're upgrading from Workflow Manager 10.8, 10.8.1, or 10.9, you'll need to uninstall the Workflow Manager web app from your Portal for ArcGIS machine.
    Note:

    If you are upgrading from Workflow Manager 10.9.1 or later, you do not need to uninstall the Workflow Manager web app before upgrading. The Workflow Manager web app is automatically upgraded with ArcGIS Enterprise.

  2. Upgrade ArcGIS Enterprise to version 11.0.
    Note:

    The Workflow Manager web app is included with Portal for ArcGIS starting at 10.9.1.

  3. Upgrade Workflow Manager to version 11.0.
  4. Upgrade your workflow items.

Do I need to uninstall earlier versions of Workflow Manager?

No. If you already have Workflow Manager installed, the Workflow Manager setup will automatically upgrade it.

Do I need to back up anything before upgrading Workflow Manager?

Yes. You should create an ArcGIS Enterprise backup before upgrading Workflow Manager.

If I upgrade ArcGIS Server, do I need to upgrade Workflow Manager?

Yes. The version of Workflow Manager must match the ArcGIS Server version.

How do I move from a single-machine deployment to a highly available deployment during an upgrade?

First, upgrade your single-machine Workflow Manager deployment version to 11.0. Then, set up additional Workflow Manager machines and configure them for high availability.
