Add a system counter

System counters allow you to monitor CPU, memory, network, and disk resources for Windows and Linux machines.

Add a Windows system counter

Complete the following steps to add a Windows system counter.

If the Windows machine you want to monitor is located on Amazon Web Services (AWS), use an Amazon counter instead and refer to the How To: Configure ArcGIS Monitor system counters in AWS support article for more information.

1. Start Monitor Administrator.

   The Connections view appears.

2. Click Open on the Monitor Server application connection to which you want to add the counter.

   The collection pane appears.

3. In the tree view, expand the collection and monitor service to which you want to add the counter.
4. Click System in the tree view to choose it.
5. Right-click System and click Add.
6. Expand System in the tree view and click New System.

   The Config tab appears.

7. Type the host name of the machine you want to monitor in the Hostname text box.
8. Choose Windows in the Operating System drop-down list.
9. Choose a sample interval from the Sample Interval drop-down menu.

   It is recommended that you not use sample intervals greater than 5 minutes for critical alerts as this can skew availability statistics. For more information, see View collection availability.

10. Optionally type a description in the Description text box.
11. Click Test to test the counter.

    The test results are displayed below the Test button.

12. Click Save to save the counter.

Now you can configure alerts for the counter. You can also view and analyze counter status and metrics in the ArcGIS Monitor Server application by clicking Categories > Infrastructure.

Add a Linux system counter

Complete these steps to add a Linux system counter:

1. Configure Linux for monitoring.
2. Start Monitor Administrator.

   The Connections view appears.

3. Click Open on the Monitor Server application connection to which you want to add the counter.

   The collection pane appears.

4. Expand the collection and monitor service to which you want to add the counter in the tree view.
5. Click System in the tree view to choose it.
6. Right-click System and click Add.
7. Expand System in the tree view and click New System.

   The Config tab appears.

8. Choose Linux in the Operating System drop-down list.
9. Click Add Credential.
   The Add Credential dialog box appears.
10. Type a name for the credential in the Name text box.
11. Type the user name in the User text box.
12. Type the password in the Password text box.
13. Click Add.
14. Click the Select a credential drop-down arrow and choose a credential.
15. Choose a sample interval from the Sample Interval drop-down menu.
