Upgrade an existing ArcGIS Maritime server extension installation

Available with Standard or Advanced license.

Available with Production Mapping license.

Available with ArcGIS Maritime license.

The ArcGIS Maritime server extension setup package is designed to install the necessary components for the Maritime Chart Service server object extension and mcstpk.exe. Previous versions of Maritime Chart Service for Linux did not come with an installer or mcstpk.exe. More steps for ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2 are required to remove the manually installed components.

Upgrade Maritime Chart Service (10.8.1 through 11.0)

Since previous versions of Maritime Chart Service did not come with an installer, the installed components must be manually removed.

Complete the following steps to remove previous versions of Maritime Chart Service:

  1. Locate the MaritimeChartServiceForLinuxDeployment.zip file previously copied to your Linux server.
  2. Delete the .zip file.
  3. Delete the contents for the .zip file unzipped on your server.

This includes the MaritimeServer.soe and the maritimechartservice folder containing the controlfiles, datasets, logs, and sencs folders.

Complete the following steps to upgrade Maritime Chart Service:

  1. Sign in to the machine as a user with administrative privileges.
  2. Browse to the location that contains the MaritimeServerLinux-11.1.0.<build number>.tar.gz setup package and run the following command to uncompress it:
    $ tar -zxvf MaritimeServerLinux-11.1.0.<build number>.tar.gz
  3. Run Setup.sh to start the installation:
    $ ./ArcGISMaritimeServer/Setup.sh
  4. Browse to <ArcGIS Server installation directory>/MaritimeServer to verify the contents of your uncompressed setup package.

The package should contain the following:

    • Bin
      • MaritimeServer.soe
      • mcstpk.exe
      • web.config.xml
    • maritimechartservice folder with four subfolders:
      • controlfiles
      • datasets
      • logs
      • sencs

  5. Maritime server is now installed on the local machine. To install Maritime server in a multimachine deployment, repeat the installation steps on each machine.
  6. Sign in to ArcGIS Server Manager.
  7. Click Services.
  8. Click the Stop button Stop next to the map service with Maritime Chart Service capabilities configured.
  9. Copy the controlfiles folder from <ArcGIS Server installation drive>/usr/directories/maritimeserver/maritimechartservice to a backup location and delete it from the maritimechartservice folder.
  10. Copy the new controlfiles folder from <ArcGIS Server installion directory>/MaritimeServer/maritimechartservice to <ArcGIS Server installation drive>/usr/directories/maritimeserver/maritimechartservice.
    Note:

Consolidate any modifications from the backup control files with the new control files. For example, coordinate systems and AutoCellUpdate settings.

  11. If the map service was configured to process S-63 encrypted datasets, copy the S-63 user-permit.txt file from the backup controlfiles folder to the new controlfiles folder.
  12. Delete the .senc files from <ArcGIS Server installation drive>/usr/directories/maritimeserver/maritimechartservice.

The .senc files must be rebuilt after upgrading. Deleting them improves creation performance.

  13. Repeat the steps for each map service with Maritime Chart Service capabilities configured.
  14. Sign in to ArcGIS Server Manager.
  15. Click Site.
  16. Click Extensions in the Server Configuration window.
  17. Click the Edit Extension button Edit next to MaritimeServer.soe to update the extension.
  18. Click Choose File and browse to <ArcGIS Server installation directory>/MaritimeServer/Bin.
  19. Click MaritimeServer.soe.
  20. Click Add.

The MaritimeServer.soe file is now successfully added.

  21. Click the Services tab.
  22. Click the map service to which you want to add Maritime Chart Service.

Maritime Chart Service works with any existing map service.

  23. In the Map Services window, click Capabilities.
  24. Check the Maritime Chart Service check box.
  25. Verify that the datasetsDirectory, controlFilesDirectory, and workingDirectory parameters point to the correct locations.
  26. Click Save and Restart to make Maritime Chart Service available.
    Note:

To confirm the Maritime Chart Service capabilities are working properly in the map service, verify that the .senc files in the sencs folder are current.

  27. Repeat the previous steps for each map service with Maritime Chart Service capabilities configured.
