A project references a knowledge graph. It can also contain references to maps, link charts, and data cards saved in a Knowledge Studio project. You can explore the content items in a project in the Project Contents pane, which allows you to navigate between content items and create, rename, or remove content items.

Click Project Contents
in the main menu (number 1 in the image above) to open the Project Contents pane (number 2 in the image above).
Open a content item
A new Knowledge Studio project contains a knowledge graph and dashboard content items. The knowledge graph
content item is the active view by default. Each content item opens on a new tab. A project can have a maximum of 13 tabs open at the same time.
To open a content item, click the content item in the Project Contents pane. The content item opens on a new tab at the bottom of the application.
Work with portal content
Portal content items in your project are linked to the portal. As a result, there are special considerations when working with portal content items in your project. For example, portal content items added to your project may have permissions changed, or removed entirely from your portal, while in your project. Additionally, you can add portal content items directly to your project, save portal content items, and load updates from the portal to your project.
The projects content pane and view contents pane contain icons to identify portal content items and the various status of each content item. The table below describes each portal content item identifier.

Reload portal content items
In the event changes are made to portal content that is currently linked in your project, you can reload the portal content item to reflect these changes.
- Open the portal content item in the Project Contents pane
. - Click View Contents
. - In the contents pane header, click Settings
. - Click Reload This Item
.The portal content item is loaded from the portal to your project.
Note:
Any unsaved changes to your portal content item will be lost by reloading from the portal.
View portal content items in the portal
You can view details of portal content items in your project in the portal.
- Open the portal content item in the Project Contents pane
. - Click View Contents
. - In the contents pane header, click Settings
. - ClickView In Portal
.The portal item overview opens in a new browser tab.
Rename a content item
You can rename maps, link charts, and data cards in a Knowledge Studio project. Portal content items cannot be renamed in Knowledge Studio.
- Click Options
on the content item. - Click Rename item
.The rename model appears.
- Provide a new name for the content item and click OK.
The content item is renamed, and the new name is displayed on the tab.
Save a content item
You can save copies of portal content items to a portal. You can save project content items to a portal or to your project. When you save project content items you can save to the portal and create a portal content item in your project, or save a copy in your project. You can save changes to individual portal content items in your project. Saving portal content items in your project will update the content on the portal.
Save changes to a portal content item
You can save changes to a portal content item in your project.
- Select the portal content item
from the Project Content pane
. - Click View Contents
. - In the contents pane header, click Settings
. - Click Save Content Item
.Changes to the portal content item are saved to the portal.
Save a copy of a portal content item
You can save a copy of a portal content item, such as a map or link chart. This will create a new portal item on the portal that and then add it to your project. Changes made to the portal content item will also be saved to the copy.

.The Copy Map or Copy Link Chart dialog box appears.
- Optionally:
- Type a title. A title is required to save a copy. The default is the title of the existing portal content item.
- Choose a folder in My Content where you want to save a copy of the portal content item.
- Type tags that describe the content item. Tags are words or short phrases that describe a map. Separate the terms with commas. Federal land is considered one tag, while Federal, land is considered two tags.
- Type a summary that describes the content item.
- Click Copy.
A copy of the portal content item is saved to the portal, added to the Project Contents pane as a portal content item, and linked to the project.
Save a copy of a project content item
You can save changes made to a project content item by saving your project. You can also save project content items, such as maps or link charts, as portal content items. Saving a project content item as a portal content item will save a copy to a portal and link the new portal content item to you project.

A new project content item is created and added to the Project Contents pane.
Delete project content
You can delete project content items such as maps, link charts, and data cards from the project.
- Click Options
on the project content item. - Click Delete
.
The project content is removed from the project. All data referenced by the content item remains in the project's knowledge graph and all other maps, link charts, and data cards.
Remove portal content
You can remove portal content items from the project. Removing portal content from your project will not remove it from the portal.
- Click Options
on the content item. - Click Remove
.
The portal content item is removed from the project.
