ArcGIS Monitor system requirements

ArcGIS Monitor Administrator and the ArcGIS Monitor Server application can be installed on the same machine or individual machines. Both components have shared and specific system requirements.

Operating system requirements

The following 64-bit operating systems satisfy the minimum operating system requirements. Support is not provided for 32-bit operating systems.

Hardware requirements (centralized)

When Monitor Server and Monitor Administrator are on the same machine, the hardware requirement is a dedicated machine with 4 CPU cores and 16 GB RAM. This initial requirement supports one monitor service, such as Production. An additional 2 CPU cores and 4 GB RAM are needed per additional monitor service used for other environments, such as Test or Staging.

Note:

These requirements may need to be adjusted based on your organization's needs, performance, and scalability expectations.

Hardware requirements (distributed)

When only Monitor Administrator is installed, the hardware requirement is 2 CPU cores and 8 GB RAM.

Database requirements for the Monitor Server application

MongoDB Community Server or Enterprise Server edition version 4.0.x, 3.6.x, or 3.4.x must be installed on the machine where the Monitor Server application is to be installed before you install ArcGIS Monitor. The free Community Server edition is available for download from the MongoDB website and is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License.

Installing MongoDB doesn't require any database administration skills. During the MongoDB software installation, uncheck the Install MongoD as a Service option. The ArcGIS Monitor software installation configures MongoDB for you.

Initially, 50 GB of storage space is recommended for the MongoDB data store. Actual storage requirements may need to be adjusted to accommodate the counters and sample intervals defined for your organization's needs.

Note:

The MongoDB bind IP is limited to local Monitor Server application connections by default, resulting in improved security. Only user accounts with access to the machine where the Monitor Server application is installed can access the MongoDB databases.

Firewall settings for the Monitor Server application

The Monitor Server application communicates on port 443 and MongoDB communicates on port 27017 by default.

Note:

If Internet Information Server (IIS) is running on the same machine as the Monitor Server application, port 443 may already be in use and you'll need to choose a different port number, such as 444.

If the MaxUserPort parameter has been set, ensure that MaxUserPort = 65534 is set in the Windows registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters.

Firewall settings for Monitor Administrator

Monitor Administrator communicates on ports 7999, 8000, plus one port for each additional monitor service. Ensure that nothing else is listening to these ports and that they're not blocked by firewall rules.

SSL certificates for the Monitor Server application

The Monitor Server application comes configured with self-signed certificates that allow you to perform initial testing of the server and help you verify that the installation was successful. You must request certificates from a trusted certificate authority (CA) and configure the server to use them. These can be domain certificates issued by your organization or a CA-signed certificate in .pem format.

Microsoft .NET Framework

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1 or later is required. If your operating system includes Microsoft .NET Framework, ensure that it's enabled using Windows Features. If your operating system does not include Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1 or later, you can download it from Microsoft and enable it using Windows Features.

Supported web browsers for the Monitor Server application

The Monitor Server application requires one of the following web browsers to be installed:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
    Note:

For Edge, you must use fully qualified domain syntax (https://hostname.domain.com:port).

Email for the Monitor Server application

The Monitor Server application requires an email address that will be used for sending alerts.

Note:

The email address must already exist.
