Add video layers

In Map Viewer, you can add hosted video layers to a map to view time-enabled videos in a spatial context. For example, you can visualize the path of a delivery vehicle from an aerial point of view in relation to the landscape and the infrastructure around it.

To add a video layer to a map, complete the following steps:

  1. Confirm that you are signed in and, if you want to save your changes, that you have privileges to create, update, and delete content.
  2. In Map Viewer, open the map containing the layer, or add the layer directly.
  3. On the Contents (dark) toolbar, click Layers Layers to open the Layers pane.
  4. Browse to the video layer, click Options Options, and click Show video.
  5. Do any of the following to configure the video layer playback:
    • To zoom, use Zoom in Zoom in and Zoom out Zoom out, the mouse and wheel button, or press Shift + Plus Sign (zoom in) and Shift + Minus Sign (zoom out) on your keyboard. To zoom in, you can also press the Shift key while dragging a box on the video.
    • Click Play video Play video to play the video.
    • Click Pause video Pause video to pause the video.
    • Click Jump forward 10 seconds Jump forward 10 seconds to skip 10 seconds.
    • Click Jump backwards 10 seconds Jump backwards 10 seconds to go back 10 seconds.
    • Click Jump to the start Jump to the start to go back to the start.
    • Click Jump to the end Jump to the end to skip to the end.
    • Click and drag the slider to jump to any point in the video.
    • Click Settings Settings, and click Speed to change the playback speed.
    • Click Settings Settings, and click Quality to change the video quality.
  6. Do any of the following to update the graphics on the map:
    • Click Layers Layers, and do any of the following:
      • Click Sensor to show the sensor's location.
      • Click Sight Line to show the sensor's line of sight.
      • Click Sensor Trail to show the sensor's trail.
      • Click Frame Center to show the center of the frame extent.
      • Click Frame Outline to show the outline of the frame extent.
      • Click Frame to show the video frame.
    • By default, the graphics on the map do not follow any of the video components. To change this behavior, click None Follow, and do one of the following:
      • Click Sensor to make the graphics follow the sensor's location.
      • Click Frame to make the graphics follow the frame extent.
      • Click Video to make the graphics follow the video.
    • Click Settings Settings, and click Graphics to change the layer color on the map.
  7. Click Metadata Metadata, and expand any of the sections to view additional information about the video layer.
