Save a scene

In Save Save, you can create new scenes or make copies of existing scenes and save them as web scene items in My content. To start, ensure that you have the privilege to create, update, and delete content. (If you don't have this privilege, you can still view scenes, but you can't edit or save them.)

When you save scenes, you can save all the elements you added to them, including layer configurations and slides. You can also share the scenes and layers with others in your organization or with everyone (public). By default, the scenes you save are not shared with anyone else.

Save a new scene

Create a scene and save it in My content. You can also make a copy of a scene, make changes, and save it as a new scene.

To save a scene, do the following:

  1. Verify that you are signed in to your organization and open Scene Viewer.

    Scene Viewer appears.

  2. Author your scene.

A blue dot on the Save button Save indicates that there are unsaved changes in the scene.

  3. When you are ready to save, click Save on the Designer toolbar to open the Save scene dialog box.

Under Thumbnail, there is a preview of the current view of the scene.

  4. When you are saving a new scene, whether it's the first time or saving a copy of an existing scene, follow the steps below:
    1. In the Title text box, provide a name for the scene.
    2. In the Summary text box, provide a brief summary of the scene.
    3. In the Tags text box, provide terms that will help others find the scene.
Tags are words or short phrases that describe a scene. Separate the terms with commas. Federal land is considered one tag, while Federal, land is considered two tags.
    4. If your administrator has configured a classification schema, classify the scene as needed under Classification.

If your administrator has defined a schema help document, you can access it by clicking Information Information at the top of the classification form. Refer to this document for details about the classification options.

      Note:

The classification you assign to a scene supersedes the classification assigned to the scene's contents. When you open the scene in Scene Viewer, its classification appears on banners at the top and the bottom of Scene Viewer and overrides the information banner text you may have set on the item page.

      Note:

Classifying a scene does not restrict access to it. The classification you assign to the scene, which appears on its item page and banners in Scene Viewer, provides a visual indication of the extent of security and safeguarding it warrants and can help organization members identify the correct way to interact with it. You need to set the appropriate sharing level to restrict access to the scene.

All scenes are saved in My content.

    Note:

If you are a member of a group that allows group members to update all items in the group (item update capability), you can save the scene to that group.

When you save a new scene or make a copy of a scene, the Save as new scene option is selected by default and cannot be deselected.

  5. Click Save.
  6. A message appears confirming the scene is saved. The scene is saved with the current view and a web scene item is created with the thumbnail.

Click View item details or the name of the new scene link at the top of the scene to open the new web scene item page.
