Each ArcGIS Enterprise organization includes ready-to-use content such as basemaps, web scenes, layer templates, and styles. Some Esri content is required for your organization to function as expected, while other content is provided to help users get started with creating maps and apps.
As an administrator, you can manage the availability of specific subsets of Esri content in your organization:
- Localized content—Includes Esri content translated into supported languages. By default, content is available for all languages that Esri supports. You can disable specific languages to remove the content in those languages from your organization.
- External content—Includes Esri content that requires internet access. If you disable external content, all Esri content that depends on internet access will not be discoverable or returned in search results.
Note:
Member-added content is not impacted by these settings.
Configure localized content
A subset of Esri content is localized for supported languages. Localized content consists of all content owned by "esri_[lang]". If a language is enabled for your organization, an account exists for that language that owns its localized content. For example, if Spanish is enabled for your organization, Esri content in Spanish is owned by "esri_es". When it is disabled, localized Spanish content is removed from your organization.
As an administrator, you can manage which localized content is available for your organization. Localized content should be available for any language in use by your organization's members.
Members can set their own language preference to any of those supported by Esri, even if it is not enabled for the organization. In this case, the user interface of the portal will successfully update to the language of their choice. However, localized Esri content will not be available to them. Without this content, users will not have access to the expected features and functionalities. It is recommended that you communicate with your members so that they understand which languages are enabled.
To manage the languages enabled for your organization, complete the following steps:
- Sign in to your organization as an administrator.
- At the top of the site, click Organization and click the Settings tab.
- Click Esri content on the side on the page.
- In the Localized content section, click Manage languages.
- Turn on or off the toggle button next to each language as desired. The following options are available:
- Use the search bar to search for specific languages.
- Click the Enabled drop-down menu to view all languages currently enabled for your organization.
- Click the Manage all drop-down menu and click Select all to enable all available languages or Deselect all to disable all available languages.
Note:
Disabling your organization's default language is not supported.
- Click Save changes.
The organization now displays Esri content from only those languages you enabled. The configured languages are preserved when upgrading the organization.
Disable external content
Some Esri content requires external access to the internet and can be disabled to prevent requests to ArcGIS Online resources.
The following groups of items are considered external content:
- All basemaps owned by "esri_[lang]"
- All content owned by "esri_nav" (mobile map packages)
- All content owned by "esri" (application configuration)
To disable external content in your organization, complete the following steps:
- Sign in to your organization as an administrator.
- At the topic of the site, click Organization and click the Settings tab.
- Click Esri content on the side on the page.
- In the External content, turn off the Enable external content toggle button.
Esri content that requires access to the internet is no longer discoverable or returned in search results, including the preconfigured collection of basemaps from ArcGIS Online. Create custom basemaps and configure your organization to offer these basemaps in the basemap gallery.
You can choose to re-enable external content at any time.
