Geodatabases in Microsoft Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance behave in almost the same way as geodatabases in Microsoft SQL Server. There are a few functionality differences, though, as described below:
- When using the Database Connections dialog box in ArcGIS Pro to connect to a geodatabase in Azure SQL Database as any user other than the database administrator, you must type the name of the database in the Database field.
- Use either Microsoft Geometry or Geography data types for the spatial fields in your feature classes. (Geometry is the default storage type for all geodatabases in SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and Azure SQL Managed Instance.)
- When connecting to geodatabases in Azure SQL Database, the geodatabase administrator cannot drop client connections from the Geodatabase Administration dialog box in ArcGIS Pro.
