Welcome to the Esri Roads and Highways for Server install guide

Esri Roads and Highways for Server provides tools, services and apps to manage data that is linear referenced. You now have the ability to:

  • Publish your Esri Roads and Highways for Server LRS networks and registered event layers as map services.
  • Convert routes and measures to coordinates or polylines and coordinate locations to routes and measures.
  • Validate route or measure values.
  • Convert measures from one LRM to another.
  • Use the linear referencing capability with Roadway Characteristics Editor (RCE), a web application that can be configured with published event data in Esri Roads and Highways for Server.
  • Add and edit routes using Esri Roads and Highways for Server and then perform multilayer transactional event editing with support for overlap retirement and coincident event merging using the RCE.
  • Extend the capabilities of Esri Roads and Highways for Server with the Roadway Reporter premium web application that allows you to create road segment, road milage, and road log reports from a map-centric user experience.

What is Esri Roads and Highways for Server setup?

The Esri Roads and Highways for Server setup contains the following products:

  • Esri Roads and Highways
  • Roadway Characteristics Editor (RCE) app
  • Roadway Reporter premium app

Steps to get Esri Roads and Highways for Server up and running

Esri Roads and Highways for Server follows a standard maintenance cycle and will continue to be enhanced and expanded. For major updates and releases, new complete software setups are provided through the My Esri website, while patches are provided on the Esri Support site.

The My Esri website provides links to the setups and installation guides. Click the setup link to download the associated setup program and optionally start the installation process.

You can also exit the website and run the installation setup individually. To do so, browse to the folder of the product you want to install and start the setup program. By default, this is the local Documents folder \ArcGIS[version number]\ProductName.

To install any of the Esri Roads and Highways products, browse to the directory where the setup file has been saved and double-click setup.exe.

The following steps are required to install and configure Esri Roads and Highways for Server:

  1. Obtain an authorization file for the products you have purchased:
    • Esri Roads and Highways for Server
    • Roadway Characteristics Editor (RCE) app (does not require a license)
    • Roadway Reporter premium app
  2. Verify that your site meets the system requirements.
  3. Install ArcGIS for Server if necessary.
  4. See Existing Esri Roads and Highways for Server users if you have a previous version installed on your system.
  5. Install Esri Roads and Highways for Server.
