The setup package is designed to detect and upgrade an existing installation of Esri Roads and Highways for Server. After installation, any customizations, add-ons, or third-party applications previously installed may need to be reapplied.

Common software upgrade questions

Do I need to uninstall earlier versions of Esri Roads and Highways for Server?

No. If you already have Esri Roads and Highways for Server installed, the setup will automatically upgrade it. Additionally, you can install Esri Roads and Highways for Server without having an earlier release already installed on your machine.

Do I need to back up anything before installing Esri Roads and Highways for Server?

No. All services and site configuration changes are preserved when upgrading.

If I upgrade to ArcGIS for Server, do I need to upgrade to Esri Roads and Highways for Server?

Yes. The version of Esri Roads and Highways for Server must match the ArcGIS for Server version.

Do I need to stop my GIS services and ArcGIS for Server before installing Esri Roads and Highways for Server?

The setup will restart ArcGIS for Server after installation.

If I have a multimachine server deployment, do I need to upgrade each machine?

Yes. All machines in the multimachine deployment must be upgraded to the same version of ArcGIS for Server and Esri Roads and Highways for Server.
