To complete this task, you must have an input configured using the Receive text from a TCP socket Input Connector. You must also have a text file in CSV format that contains GeoEvents to use as the source data for the simulation.
GeoEvent Simulator can be used to simulate a stream of GeoEvents into the GeoEvent Extension using a CSV text file as the data source.
- Open the GeoEvent Simulator from the Windows Start menu.
- Select File from the menu in the upper left corner.
- Click Load File to open the Load From File dialog box.
- Click the button next to File and browse to the location of the CSV text file. Click Open to choose the file.
A preview of the contents of the file is displayed under Preview Events.
- Choose the appropriate Time Field # that has the time data values. A preview of the data values will appear to the right.
Optionally, you can check the Skip the First X Lines check box if you want to skip the first line (or several lines) of the simulation file. This can be useful if the first line of your simulation file contains field headers.
- Click Load to load the simulation file into GeoEvent Simulator.
The File text box is now populated with the location of the simulation file.
- In the Server text box, type the name of the server where the GeoEvent Extension is running. In the second text box, type the port number used by the input that is configured to receive GeoEvents as text.
- Click Connect to connect to the server.
The button changes to reflect that GeoEvent Simulator has successfully connected to the server.
- The default playback rate is 1 GeoEvent per 1,000 milliseconds (1 second). To change the default, type the number of GeoEvents you want to send at a specified rate.
Alternatively, you can choose to use the Real Rate option. This option will simulate the playback of GeoEvents using the actual time intervals between GeoEvents that are represented in the raw data.
- Click Play to begin simulating GeoEvents. After clicking Play, the icon on the button toggles to Pause.
Click Pause to stop the playback at any time. You can also click Step Forward to send one GeoEvent at a time.
