ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes

ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes is a cloud-native deployment option for ArcGIS Enterprise. It is available alongside Windows and Linux deployment options. It delivers ArcGIS Enterprise in a containerized architecture, running in either your organization's Kubernetes platform or your cloud provider's Kubernetes service.

See the ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes help to learn more.

Optional ArcMap service runtime and Python 2.x installation

At 10.9.1, when you install or upgrade ArcGIS Server, you have the option to disable the ArcMap Runtime Support feature. You can also disable or enable the ArcMap Runtime Support feature after installing or upgrading ArcGIS Server. This feature enables the ability to publish and host ArcMap based services and includes an installation of Python 2.x. If your organization has concerns about having Python 2.x on your system, disabling this feature will ensure that Python 2.x is not installed with ArcGIS Server.

It is recommended that you use this opportunity at 10.9.1 to migrate your ArcMap based services to use the ArcGIS Pro service runtime. ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1 will be the last release to support ArcMap based services. After this release, it will no longer be possible to publish or consume services from ArcMap (including ArcPy based in ArcMap) in ArcGIS Server sites. Services using the ArcMap service runtime will no longer be able to run if present during an upgrade to a later release of ArcGIS Server. Use this opportunity to migrate and test your services, Python scripts, geoprocessing tools, and any ArcObjects SOEs and SOIs before support ends at the next release.

For more information about the security implications and how to handle migration to the ArcGIS Pro service runtime, see Security best practices.

ArcGIS Knowledge

With ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1, ArcGIS Knowledge introduces the ability to create a knowledge graph, leveraging a new ArcGIS Data Store graph store. Knowledge graphs allow you to model real-world systems in a nonspatial way. Entities represent real-world objects, and the relationships establish the connections between entities. Properties can be used to record facts about an entity or a relationship. The knowledge graph can reference documents that provide authoritative sources of the information in the knowledge graph.

When you use ArcGIS Pro with ArcGIS Enterprise, you can create an empty knowledge graph, populate it with data, and edit the contents of the graph. You can add a knowledge graph to a map in your project to view and analyze an entity's spatial features. Create link charts to discover connections and analyze influence of an entity or a relationship in the system. To create and interact with a knowledge graph, you must have an ArcGIS Knowledge user type extension.

For more information, see the ArcGIS Knowledge help.

Mapping and visualization

A new Map Viewer is available at this release. Highlights of the new Map Viewer include the following:

  • Draw features and place stamps on the map using the new Sketch tool.
  • Switch quickly between layers when styling, configuring pop-ups, and making other changes to multiple layers in the map.
  • Hide interface elements to expand the size of the map display.

The organization administrator can configure the new Map Viewer or Map Viewer Classic (formerly known as Map Viewer) as the default map viewer for the organization. Individual organization members can set a different default map viewer in their profile.

Data management updates

The following are highlights of what's new for data management in ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1 portals:

  • Improvements were made to the interface for adding items to the portal.

Emails and authentication

The following is new for emails and authentication in ArcGIS Enterprise:

  • If the organization administrator configures email notification for the portal, an email will be sent to administrative contacts when ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Data Store machines reach critical disk space thresholds. One email is sent per day to alert administrators to add disk space to the machines.

Migrate services to the ArcGIS Pro service runtime

Support for GIS services published from ArcGIS Desktop is being phased out. ArcGIS Server 10.9.x is the last release cycle to support the ArcMap service runtime. After this, it will no longer be possible to publish or consume services from ArcMap (including ArcPy based in ArcMap) in ArcGIS Server sites. Services using the ArcMap service runtime will no longer be able to run if present during an upgrade to a later release of ArcGIS Server.

Therefore, it is recommended that you start now to transition all publishing workflows to ArcGIS Pro for new services and consider migrating all existing services to the ArcGIS Pro service runtime.
