What's new in ArcGIS Data Store 12.0

Technology changes that impact ArcGIS Data Store 12.0 include a change in graph store modes and the deprecation of the tile cache data store. These changes and additional new or altered ArcGIS Data Store functionality are described in the sections below.

Tile cache data store is no longer supported

The functionality of the tile cache data store has been replaced by the object store. If your ArcGIS Enterprise deployment includes a tile cache data store that contains hosted scene layer caches, you must add the object store to the deployment and migrate the caches to the object store before you can upgrade the ArcGIS Enterprise deployment to 12.0.

The administrator of the hosting server can run the MigrateSceneService utility that is installed with ArcGIS Server 11.4 and 11.5 to move hosted scene layer caches to the object store; then the tile cache data store can be disabled. Read the 11.4 or 11.5 help for instructions.

Two self-extracting packages for ArcGIS Data Store on Windows

Starting with the 12.0 release, the ArcGIS Data Store installation package for Microsoft Windows is composed of two files: ArcGIS_DataStore_Windows_<version>_<productID>.exe and ArcGIS_DataStore_Windows_<version>_<productID>.exe.001. Both files must be in the same folder when you double-click the ArcGIS_DataStore_Windows_<version>_<productID>.exe file to extract their contents.

Port requirements for the object store

As of ArcGIS Data Store 12.0, gRPC ports 28981 and 29895 are needed for communication between object store machines in a cluster and must be available on a single-instance object store machine.

ArcGIS Data Store upgrades

The changes described below affect upgrading ArcGIS Data Store.

Versions supported for direct upgrades

You can upgrade to ArcGIS Data Store 12.0 from ArcGIS Data Store 11.0 or later only if your deployment does not include hosted scene layers that store caches in the tile cache data store, or other functionality that is no longer supported.

See the Software versions section of Upgrade ArcGIS Data Store for information about limitations on direct upgrades.

Tile cache data store upgrades

As mentioned above, you cannot upgrade the tile cache data store to 12.0. You must migrate hosted scene layer caches to the object store if you have hosted scene layers in your organization before you can upgrade. After you migrate all caches and test the hosted scene layers, you can disable the tile cache data store. Only then can you proceed with upgrading ArcGIS Enterprise to 12.0.

Graph store upgrades

If the existing graph store contains a single machine, there are no changes to the upgrade procedure.

However, if you are upgrading from 11.4 or earlier and the graph store in your deployment contains two machines, be aware of the following:

  • You must upgrade only one of the machines. When you do, the upgraded machine is placed in single instance mode, and the other machine is unregistered from the hosting server.
  • If you still require high availability, upgrade one of the graph store machines and all other ArcGIS Data Store types in the deployment. Next, ensure that you have a default backup location configured for the graph store. Then you can use the configuredatastore utility to add two machines to the graph store to create a cluster.

Follow the instructions in Upgrade to ArcGIS Data Store 12.0, including the postupgrade tasks.

Also, a graph store that is deployed in cluster mode requires a TCP port 9830 to be available for communication between machines in the cluster. See Ports used by ArcGIS Data Store for a complete list of the ports required for each type of ArcGIS Data Store.

ArcGIS Data Store configuration and upgrade app modernization

The browser-based interface that you can use to configure or upgrade ArcGIS Data Store deployments has been improved to correct errors, streamline links, and match the style of other interfaces in ArcGIS Enterprise.

Changes and additions to ArcGIS Data Store utilities

The describedatastore utility lists the coordinator machines in an object store cluster.

The updatesslcertificate utility has been removed at this release. Use the replacesslcertificate utility instead.

The listdatasources utility is deprecated at this release because the workflow that required it—upgrading the spatiotemporal big data store and ArcGIS GeoEvent Server from 10.8.1—is no longer supported.

Similarly, the following are changes and additions to ArcGIS Data Store utilities as a result of the removal of the tile cache data store:

  • The tileCache value has been removed from the store option in all utilities.
  • The disabledatastore and changenosqldslocation utilities have been removed because they were only used with the tile cache data store.
  • The replicatedata and mode options have been removed from the restoredatastore utility because they were only used with the tile cache data store.
  • The primaryStandby value of the mode option of the configuredatastore utility has been removed because it was only used with the tile cache data store.
