The Item Details assistant (beta) can help you improve the quality of the information you store about your items, which, in turn, helps other users find, understand, and use the items.
The assistant provides suggestions for the detail values. You can use each suggestion provided by the assistant as is, or use it as a starting place that you modify it to suit your needs.
The Item Details assistant (beta) is supported for the following item types:
- Hosted feature layer
- Hosted feature layer view
- Hosted table
- ArcGIS Server feature layers
Note:
The underlying feature service cannot be secured with credentials.
For the hosted items listed above, you can also use the assistant to get suggestions for field properties.
Get started
To get started with the Item Details assistant (beta), do the following:
- Access the assistant from the item page.
- To get detail suggestions for the item, click Suggest on the Overview tab of the item page. To get detail suggestions for a sublayer, click the layer name on the Overview tab to open the layer's page, and click Suggest. See Use suggestions for overview details (beta) for instructions.
- To get suggestions for field display name, field description, and field value type, go to the fields view on the Data tab, select the fields, and click Suggest. See Use suggestions for field properties (beta) for instructions.
Note:
The administrator of your organization must configure assistants before you can access the ArcGIS Enterprise assistant (beta).
Guidelines
The following guidelines can help you use the Item Details assistant (beta):
- To use the assistant to get suggested item detail or field property values, you must be the owner of the item, a member of the default administrator role, a member of a custom role with the administrative privilege to update content, or a member of a shared update group with which the layer is shared.
- Review the suggestions provided by the assistant and make edits to them as needed.
- You can revert to the previous values before you save changes.
Credits
Using the Item Details assistant (beta) does not consume ArcGIS Online credits.

Limitations and bias
At this release, the Item Details assistant (beta) is supported with the item types listed above only.
An ArcGIS Online organizational account is required to access the Item Details assistant (beta). Other account types, such as ArcGIS Online public accounts, are not currently supported.
Suggestions generated using AI can be misleading or inaccurate. To avoid potentially reinforcing any unintentional biases in the AI models used by the Item Details assistant (beta), human judgment must be applied to interpreting and acting upon the assistant's outputs.
