At each release, new versions of each Esri Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is available on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace.

New for 10.8.1
The following functionality is new in the 10.8.1 release.
Enhanced support for ArcGIS Server roles
At 10.8.1, you can deploy a federated, single-machine ArcGIS Mission Server site on AWS using an Esri sample CloudFormation template or ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services. You must have an ArcGIS Mission Server license to create an ArcGIS Mission Server site.
If you used ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services to create a deployment that includes ArcGIS Notebook Server, you can use the 10.8.1 Cloud Builder to upgrade it.
Security enhancements
A Windows administrator can install ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services, but the people who run ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services do not have to be Windows administrators. Each person who runs Cloud Builder on the same machine will have a separate working directory. This not only eliminates the need for the user to be an administrator, it also means that people who run the app from the same machine will not be able to see each other's AWS credentials in the configuration files.
Beginning with 10.8.1, all deployments you create using ArcGIS Enterprise on Amazon Web Services deployment tools use version 2 of the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Instance Metadata Service (IMDS V2). IMDS V2 is a more secure version of the instance metadata service.
If you upgrade a 10.8 or earlier deployment or you create a 10.8.1 deployment without using ArcGIS Enterprise on Amazon Web Services deployment tools, the instances continue to use IMDS V1. To use IMDS V2 for the instances in these deployments, you must configure it. See Configuring the instance metadata service in AWS documentation for more information about the two versions of IMDS and how to configure an instance to use IMDS V2. Be aware that, at this time, there is a known issue in the Amazon CloudWatch log agent that prevents writing deployment logs in the CloudWatch service if IMDS V2 is enabled on the EC2 instances.
You can use ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services to create deployments in AWS GovCloud (US). The process of using Cloud Builder to create and manage deployments in AWS GovCloud is the same as in the AWS public cloud.
New for 10.8
The following functionality is new in the ArcGIS 10.8 release.
ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services
- If you created a deployment with the 10.7.1 ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services app, you can upgrade it using the 10.8 ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services app.
- At 10.8, you can include a federated ArcGIS Notebook Server site when you create an ArcGIS Enterprise deployment using ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services. ArcGIS Notebook Server is supported on Ubuntu only.
- Deployments you create with 10.8 ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder Command Line Interface for Amazon Web Services will appear in the ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services app. You can also use the ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder Command Line Interface for Amazon Web Services to view information for deployments created with the ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services app.
- The following new commands are available with ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder CLI for AWS to help you manage deployments: LIST, STOP, and START.
- The ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder CLI for AWS DELETE command no longer requires you to provide a JSON file when deleting a deployment.
- You must open ports 29079-29090 and 4369 in the firewall of a multimachine ArcGIS Enterprise deployment before upgrading. You also must confirm a shared file location is set for tile cache data store backups before upgrading.
- The ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services app and command line interface use a single Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) deployment bucket per AWS account. This bucket is managed by ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Amazon Web Services. Do not delete or modify this S3 bucket or the objects in it. If you modify the bucket or its contents, you will not be able to access or manage your deployments from the Cloud Builder app or command line interface. This bucket is always created in the AWS us-east-1 region. The naming convention for this bucket is esri-aws-<aws account id>.
Esri sample AWS CloudFormation templates
At 10.8, two new Esri sample AWS CloudFormation templates are available: one to create a federated ArcGIS Notebook Server site and one to create a Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) that allows you to use a DMZ architecture.
At each release, improvements are also made to existing Esri sample AWS CloudFormation templates.
