Note:
This information applies to upgrading Portal for ArcGIS configured on an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instance or instances separate from other ArcGIS Enterprise components.
How you upgrade depends on how and when you deployed Portal for ArcGIS on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- You can use manual procedures to upgrade Portal for ArcGIS running on its own Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instance or instances. If you deployed Portal for ArcGIS on its own instance before 10.9, you must use the manual procedures to upgrade.
- If you deployed Portal for ArcGIS on its own EC2 instance or instances using 10.9, 10.9.1, 11.0, 11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4, or 11.5 Amazon Web Services (AWS) CloudFormation templates provided by Esri, you can use 12.0 CloudFormation templates to upgrade it. If the deployment is still at 10.9 or 10.9.1, you must first upgrade to an interim version before you can upgrade to 12.0.
Before you upgrade
Regardless of the upgrade method you use, review the following information before you upgrade the deployment:
- Read ArcGIS upgrades on Amazon Web Services to determine whether your deployment requires that you perform extra tasks before upgrading to 12.0. Complete all required tasks before upgrading to 12.0.
- You must obtain a new license file to upgrade to 12.0.
- Make a backup of the deployment before upgrading.
Upgrade using manual upgrade procedures
The manual upgrade procedure for Portal for ArcGIS on its own EC2 instance or instances on AWS is similar to upgrading one on-premises. Therefore, follow instructions in the Portal for ArcGIS installation guide to upgrade the site. Read the instructions specific to the operating system on your EC2 instances:
- Upgrade Portal for ArcGIS (Linux)
- Upgrade Portal for ArcGIS (Microsoft Windows)
Note:
If the starting version or components in your deployment require you to upgrade to an interim version, follow the instructions provided in the interim help version before following instructions to upgrade to 12.0.
Upgrade using a CloudFormation template
If you deployed Portal for ArcGIS on its own EC2 instance or instances using 10.9, 10.9.1, 11.0, 11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4, or 11.5 Amazon Web Services (AWS) CloudFormation templates provided by Esri, you can use the corresponding 12.0 CloudFormation upgrade template to upgrade it.
Note:
If the starting version or components in your deployment require you to upgrade to an interim version, follow the instructions provided in the interim help version before following instructions to upgrade to 12.0.
The following table lists corresponding deployment and upgrade templates and provides links to instructions for using the upgrade templates:
| Deployment template | 12.0 upgrade template | Instructions to use upgrade template |
