What is ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) Server?

Mit der Workflow Manager-Lizenz verfügbar.

ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) Server is an extension of ArcGIS Server that provides a framework to organize, centralize, and standardize project workflows using web services.

Workflow Manager (Classic) helps address many business challenges that arise in GIS as well as non-GIS environments. The following are some of the biggest challenges for businesses:

  • Inconsistent workflows being followed for a common process
  • Little to no information about who performed the work and when it was completed
  • No easy way to monitor the status and progress of work being performed
  • Too much time wasted in gathering information to report to stakeholders
  • Employees not knowing what they are supposed to work on
  • Difficulty in categorizing historical information related to a specific task performed
  • Managing data versions respective to each task
  • Tracking the tasks that have been temporarily halted

Using Workflow Manager (Classic), you can address not just these challenges but many more and balance the issues caused by cost, time, or data errors.

Enable ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) Server

The stand-alone ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) Server extension installer is no longer necessary at 10.9.1. However, the software must be authorized using your Workflow Manager Server extension license key on each machine on which it is installed.

ArcGIS Server is required and must be installed to compatible versions. Support is not provided for the Linux operating system.

Authorize software

Visit My Esri to obtain authorization (by email, fax, phone, or mail), then use your license key to authorize the Workflow Manager Server extension.

Once the Workflow Manager Server extension license is used to authorize each instance of ArcGIS Server, the Workflow Manager (Classic) features and services that are native to ArcGIS Enterprise are available to use.

Upgrade from 10.8 or 10.9

When upgrading to 10.9.1 from 10.8 or 10.9 you must upgrade to ArcGIS Server 10.9.1, authorize the Workflow Manager Server extension, and republish and overwrite your existing workflow services using the Publish Workflow Service tool. You should also uninstall previous versions of the ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) Server extension once the new workflow services have been published.

Hinweis:

If you don't want to republish your workflow services, you must install the 10.9.1 version of the stand-alone ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) Server extension to continue using your existing workflow services. At the next release, the services will need to be republished and overwritten.

Compatibility with ArcGIS Pro

ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise must be installed to compatible versions:

Workflow service

The workflow service is a type of ArcGIS Server service originating from a Workflow Manager (Classic) repository. Using Workflow Manager (Classic), you can expose your workflow management capabilities on the web using ArcGIS. The Workflow Manager (Classic) system is configured using desktop tools, and the repository is published as a service on ArcGIS Server.

The workflow service allows you to integrate your existing business process with your GIS workflows via REST and SOAP APIs. You can view job status via a web app, assign work to staff, and evaluate the progress of existing jobs.

Workflow Manager (Classic) JavaScript Viewer

The Workflow Manager (Classic) JavaScript Viewer is a GIS web client workflow manager app for ArcGIS Server. It is a complete workflow management app that allows for ease and efficiency toward managing and tracking business workflows. The JavaScript Viewer is easily configurable to meet custom business needs and requirements. No programming skills are required to deploy it.

Integration with Portal for ArcGIS

Workflow Manager (Classic) supports Portal for ArcGIS authentication in addition to the existing authentication methods supported by the web app. With Workflow Manager (Classic) running within a federated Portal for ArcGIS/ArcGIS Server environment, the web app can leverage the users from the portal store. The identity store for your portal defines where the credentials of your portal accounts are stored, how authentication occurs, and how group membership is managed.

In the portal store, members belong to a Portal for ArcGIS Organization, and the username is as defined in the portal. The members are managed in the portal, the profile cannot be edited, and members are assigned to groups in the Workflow Manager Administrator and inherit the privileges based on the Workflow Manager groups.

Portal authentication is available in 10.3.1 and later versions of Workflow Manager (Classic).
