View details

Items related to a search query are displayed on the Search Results page. Additional information is provided on the item details page, which can be accessed by clicking the item's name in the search result.

Start with the basics

Each search result provides the following details to help you scan search results and make the right selection:

Note:

To edit item details, including title, description, and tags, the owner of an item can access the item in ArcGIS Enterprise. For more information, see Item details.

  • Collection—The collection to which the item belongs (for example, Sites, Data, Documents, or Apps & Maps).
  • Source—The owner of the item. The following hierarchy defines how the source is generated based on information provided in the item's metadata:
    • Metadata > Resource > Citation > Contact > Organization Name
    • Metadata > Resource > Contact > Organization Name
      Note:

To edit an item's metadata, an administrator of your organization must have enabled metadata, and you must be the owner of the item. For more information, see Metadata.

    • If the above information isn't listed in the metadata or if your organization has not enabled metadata, the search results will display the organization's name as provided in ArcGIS Enterprise.
      Note:

To edit your organization information, you must be an administrator. Learn how to configure general settings.

    • If the organization's name isn't provided, the owner's user name will be displayed as the source.
  • Description—The item description in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal provided by the owner. Item owners can edit descriptions by accessing the item in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal.

Sites

Search results for sites display the site's name, a description, its source, and the user name of the owner. Sites do not have item details pages; click a site's name in the search results to open the site in a new tab.

Note:

Sites do not display tags, but adding tags to your sites increases the likelihood that they will appear in search results. Those who have the appropriate privileges to edit sites can add tags by accessing the site item in ArcGIS Enterprise.

When you find a site that you're interested in, click its title in the search result to open the site. If you have privileges to edit the site, an edit button a pencil is located on the left side of the page. Click this button to enable edit mode.

    Tip:

Hover over the Last Updated date for details about what was updated. Metadata Updated will appear if the item has been edited in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal.
