Configure a project dashboard

The dashboard view is one of the default views in a Knowledge Studio project that you can configure to synthesize key information about your project or analysis.

You can select different layouts (number 1 in the image below) for your dashboard that contain one to four card slots. Cards added to the dashboard are listed in the Dashboard contents (number 2 in the image below). Reordering the cards listed in the contents will reorder them in the layout. You can add content to your dashboard (number 3 in the image below) and display in an available card in the layout (number 4 in the image below). You can also add content directly to an empty card (number 5 in the image below)

Add content to the dashboard

There are three different types of content you can add to the dashboard:

  • Basic content - Basic content items are system generated summaries of different aspects of your project.
  • Stored queries - Any stored query in the project.
  • Embedded content - Embed hosted images, videos, audio files or other web content into the dashboard.

You can have a combination of different content items in your dashboard. The number of visible content items, called cards, is determined by the dashboard layout. However, you can have additional cards in the dashboard contents. These can be dragged into a visible slot by clicking the drag handle and dragging it above one of the numbered cards in the Dashboard Contents.

All dashboard cards can be renamed. Renaming a card does not rename the underlying content item.

Basic content

The basic dashboard content is information about the contents of the project and the connected knowledge graph.

  1. There are two ways to add new content to the dashboard:
    • If there is an empty card on the dashboard, click the Configure Card button in the middle of the card.
    • Click Add Content in the Dashboard Contents pane.

The Add new content to dashboard modal opens.

  2. Select the content item to add. By default the Basic content items are listed.
    • Empty Card - A blank white card to fill a slot in your layout.
    • Project Link Charts - A list of the link charts in the project. You can rename the content item from the list or click a link chart in the list to open it.
    • Project Maps - A list of the maps in the project. You can rename the content item from the list or click a map in the list to open it.
    • Entity Types - A list of the entity types in the knowledge graph and the count of entities in that type.
    • Relationship Types - A list of the relationship types in the knowledge graph and the count of relationships in that type.
    • Project Details - Details on the project including created and modified dates, project owner, and the knowledge graph used by the project.
  3. Click Add.

The content will be added to the dashboard. It will go in the next unconfigured card if there is one available otherwise it will be added to the Dashboard Content pane.

Rename maps or link charts from a card

Maps and link charts can be renamed from the Project Link Charts or Project Maps cards.

Stored query

Any stored query can be added to a dashboard card. The card will display the results of the query in one of the three result views. The query results can be refreshed from the chip if the query is updated and will automatically refresh when the project is loaded.

  1. There are two ways to add new content to the dashboard:
    • If there is an empty card on the dashboard, click the Configure Card button in the middle of the card.
    • Click Add Content in the Dashboard Contents pane.

The Add new content to dashboard modal opens.

  2. Click the Stored Queries tab
  3. Select the stored query to add to the dashboard.
  4. Optionally, select the query result view to display in the dashboard chip.

    • Link Chart - Display the query results in a link chart.
    • Map - Display the query results in the map.
  5. Click Add.

The stored query will be added to the dashboard. It will go in the next unconfigured card if there is one available otherwise it will be added to the Dashboard Content pane.

Update a stored query view

The results view for a stored query card can be updated in the card once it is in the dashboard layout.

  1. Move the mouse over the stored query card.

    The preview mode toolbar appears.

  2. Click the desired view mode.
  3. If you have updated the stored query or the underlying knowledge graph data, you can optionally click the Refresh button to refresh the query results displayed in the card.

Embedded content

A dashboard can have any web content that is configured for embedding in a card.

Before you embed content into your dashboard, it's recommended that you verify the source of your content. Ensure that you are respecting any terms of use. Some websites restrict embedding. This is a choice that some organizations make to protect their content from misuse by third-party users. If the original source restricts embedding the content will not be displayed in the dashboard.

URL references should use HTTPS. If the URL references a domain that differs from your organization, the server hosting the requested resources must support CORS requests from your organization.

  1. There are two ways to add new content to the dashboard:
    • If there is an empty card on the dashboard, click the Configure Card button in the middle of the card.
    • Click Add Content in the Dashboard Contents pane.

The Add new content to dashboard modal opens.

  2. Click the Embedded Content tab.
  3. Select the type of embedded content to match the type of content to add to the dashboard.
    • Hosted Image File - A image file hosted on the web. The URL to this file must end in a standard image file extension such as .jpg or .png.
    • Hosted Audio File - A audio file hosted on the web. The URL to this file must end in a standard audio file extension such as .mp3. This format will provide audio controls such a play and pause for the audio file in the dashboard chip
    • Hosted Video File - A video file hosted on the web. The URL to this file must end in a standard audio file extension such as .mp4. This format will provide controls such a play and pause for the video file in the dashboard chip
    • Embedded Web Content - Any web resource URL. This resource must be configured for embedding for it to display properly in the dashboard.
  4. Paste the URL into the Content URL input box.
  5. Click Add.

The embedded content will be added to the dashboard. It will go in the next unconfigured card if there is one available otherwise it will be added to the Dashboard Content pane.

Note:

If you embed content in a card that contains more than one map or link chart or other WebGL canvas you may cause unsaved edits in open content items to be lost.

Change dashboard layout

There are eight different layouts you can use for your dashboard with one, two, three and four cards in different configurations. The dashboard layout can be changed at any time.

  1. Click Configure layout in the Dashboard Contents.

    The Dashboard Layout modal opens.

  2. Click the desired layout.
  3. Click Apply Layout.

The new layout is applied to the dashboard. Any content currently in the dashboard will be slotted into the new dashboard in the order it is listed in the Dashboard Contents.

Remove dashboard content

Content is removed from the dashboard by deleting the card.

  1. Click the options menu on the card in the Dashboard Contents pane.
  2. Click Delete Card.

The card is removed from the dashboard. If the card represented a stored query, the query remains in the project.

Rename dashboard cards

Cards in the dashboard can be renamed. Renaming a card that contains a stored query does not rename the original stored query.

  1. Click the options menu on the card in the Dashboard Contents pane.
  2. Click Rename.

    The Rename modal opens.

  3. Type the new name into the text box.
  4. Click Apply.

The card is removed from the dashboard. If the card represented a stored query, the query remains in the project.
